This was so much fun to read。 Osman’s characterisation is strong and the plot is well-paced。 I particularly like how he can introduce more characters who just fit so well into the world - they all feel so natural。 I did have a double take over one person having the same name as a Holby City character though… The beauty of the Thursday Murder Club series is how you can be intrigued one minute, laughing the next and then sniffling a little at some truly touching moments。 I’ve given this five stars This was so much fun to read。 Osman’s characterisation is strong and the plot is well-paced。 I particularly like how he can introduce more characters who just fit so well into the world - they all feel so natural。 I did have a double take over one person having the same name as a Holby City character though… The beauty of the Thursday Murder Club series is how you can be intrigued one minute, laughing the next and then sniffling a little at some truly touching moments。 I’ve given this five stars because it deserves it, although I think ‘The Man Who Died Twice’ is marginally better。 I did also buy the Waterstones addition with the extra story in it, which made me giggle。 。。。more

"The Bullet that Missed," Richard Osman's third entry in his Thursday Murder Club mystery series, is his most engaging to date。 The protagonists are Elizabeth Best, a once-formidable spy with a colorful past; Ibrahim Arif, an insightful psychiatrist; Ron Ritchie, a fiery workers' rights advocate; and Joyce Meadowcroft, a tiny and cheerful former nurse and widow who is sharper than she appears, all live in the retirement village of Coopers Chase in Kent, England。 They add spice to their lives by "The Bullet that Missed," Richard Osman's third entry in his Thursday Murder Club mystery series, is his most engaging to date。 The protagonists are Elizabeth Best, a once-formidable spy with a colorful past; Ibrahim Arif, an insightful psychiatrist; Ron Ritchie, a fiery workers' rights advocate; and Joyce Meadowcroft, a tiny and cheerful former nurse and widow who is sharper than she appears, all live in the retirement village of Coopers Chase in Kent, England。 They add spice to their lives by tackling unsolved homicides, and often outshine the police in the process。Elizabeth and her friends look into a cold case involving Bethany Waites, a journalist who, ten years earlier, was presumed washed out to sea when her wrecked car was discovered at the bottom of a cliff。 Before she disappeared, Waites had been preparing to expose a scam involving millions of dollars。 Members of the Thursday Murder Club question Bethany's friends and co-workers, and they discover that Waits had been an ambitious and savvy woman who hoped that this sensational story would advance her career。What makes this book a standout is its richness, variety, and laugh-out-loud dialogue。 Osmon satirizes amateur writers of detective fiction who think that it is easy to write a popular thriller; greedy individuals who would rather steal money than earn it; would-be-assassins who, when confronted with their victims, decide that killing them may not be worth the effort; and television personalities who are desperate to remain at the top by earning high ratings and maintaining a strong social media presence。 This complex whodunit will stump even the canniest armchair sleuths。 Along with the merriment, there are poignant passages about the toll that old age and sickness can take on us and those we love。 The author masterfully juggles a large and colorful cast of characters, such as Viktor, an amiable ex-KGB agent, and Connie Johnson, a hard-bitten and calculating prison inmate。 Osman keeps the compelling plot moving at a fast clip, and wraps things up ingeniously。 This riotous, poignant, and entertaining novel is a must-read for fans of off-beat crime fiction。 。。。more

If you haven't read 'The Thursday Murder Club' and 'The Man Who Died Twice' you need to start from the beginning。 It's worth it。If you have read the two previous books。。。 you probably already bought this one!Osman is undoubtedly one of the best cosy mysteries authors。 I didn't say "of our generation", and that's deliberate。 If you haven't read 'The Thursday Murder Club' and 'The Man Who Died Twice' you need to start from the beginning。 It's worth it。If you have read the two previous books。。。 you probably already bought this one!Osman is undoubtedly one of the best cosy mysteries authors。 I didn't say "of our generation", and that's deliberate。 。。。more

Wonderful, just wonderful, great story, makes you laugh one minute and has your heart hurting the next, charming and relatable characters, I can’t praise this series enough and am so excited each year as the new one approaches。

I’m glad to have read this (and will read the 4th one that is being written right now when it comes out), however, I feel that the first was amazing, the second got better as it went on but this one was very slow to get my attention and interest and I didn’t love the plot as much as others。 I will always love the characters and hope we get to know them deeper instead of adding too many new characters in the next one!

Dianne

Forgot all about pre ordering The bullet that missed, what a lovely suprise。 We worth the wait, it starts where the last ended。 The usual Thursday murder club members looking into an old murder case, Elizabeth has her own secrets, good old Joyce keeps us updated with her diary entries, Boden & Stephan still enjoy chess, even the odd adventure。 You will have to read it to find out the rest。Absolutely Brilliant

Jackie

I still love the characters- they are too gorgeous to not love them。 The plot, well that’s another story。 This book was not as good as the last two books, very Miss Marple this time。

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ - a fully fledged member of the Thursday murder club。 I didn’t think the series could get better, but it did。 Roll on book number 4!

Simply brilliant。 Funny, emotional and clever all in one。 I never tire of these characters and I’m genuinely sad that I’ve finished and have to wait another year for the next installment。 I never at one point felt bored or like anything was put in for the sake。 Every chapter had a relevance and a purpose, and the story was just a great journey to be on。 Loved it!

‘And I say thank you ma’am and you are the Crown Jewels of the United Kingdom’ never fails! Another showstopper! Cosy crime

Clare

These are getting better and better! I just love the whole concept and the twisty stories。 Brilliant! More please!!!

Suzanne Turner

I think it’s probably as well written as the first two but I didn’t enjoy it as much as I had been listening to the audiobooks and the change of narrator for book 3 was too jarring。 I read the book instead but had been looking forward to the familiarity of Lesley Manville’s narration。

I don't normally write reviews, just leave a score but there's definitely something about the Thursday Murder Club Gang that always leave me wanting more! I can't wait for the 4th instalment。 I won't give any spoilers away here but I'm always guessing throughout all 3 thinking I've guessed who it is, then there's a surprise other layer (then another) this book was BRILLIANT! I haven’t been disappointed by this series so far and this instalment is no different! It’s the perfect blend of curiosity and comedy with characters I have now grown to love and new characters who slot neatly into the world Osman has created。 I especially love being a detective myself with his novels but always forgetting one or more details and being surprised at the end by a final plot twist。 My only fear now is for my beloved Thursday Murder Club members - logic suggests some journeys might I haven’t been disappointed by this series so far and this instalment is no different!
